One of the most important device applications of the liquid crystals are Liquid Crystal Displays (LCDs). The vast majority of conventional LCDs are electrically addressed. However, different approach for addressing of the LCDs, such as liquid crystal light shutters for instance, can be employed by incorporating in the LCD photo generated voltage units (PVUs) so that the device can be optically and/or electrically addressed. Liquid crystal light shutters, which are photo and/or electro electrically addressed shutters may find applications in different fields such as photonics and smart windows, for instance
